There are many ways to get from O'Hare to Chicago and from Midway to Chicago. Depending on what you need, it can be an easy or hard choice to choose how to get to your destination. You can choose a shuttle van service or take the public transportation train, or a taxi, or maybe a sedan or limousine. Decisions. Decisions. Think of how many people are traveling, are you in a hurry or have lots of times, and most of all, how much do you want to spend.
Many airports feature shuttle companies that will transport individual guests for a set rate and O'Hare is no exception. The advantages of using this type of transportation can be the low price and the ease of walking up to a desk to get your transportation. The downsides can be the routes are set as the guests arrive; so you may be waiting for more passengers before the vehicle leaves. Once you are on the road; everyone in your van may be going to different hotels so you may have to endure several stops before yours.
O'Hare Airport is the last stop on the Chicago Transit Authority's (CTA) Blue Line. This makes boarding easy as there are almost always waiting trains. Getting to the station can be a challenge depending on where you are arriving from. All domestic terminals are connected to the train station by underground tunnels so you can avoid the wonderful Chicago winter weather. If you are arriving from an international flight then you will have to take the airport tram to one of the domestic terminals to get to those underground walkways. Once you ride the train, which is about 35-45 minutes to downtown Chicago, you will have to get from the train station to your hotel. The length of your walk will depend on where the train stop is in relation to your hotel's location. This would be the least expensive option, though not the easiest.
This option is one of the easier ones as it is usually door to door service. Taxi lines are available in all terminals at O'Hare Airport. Depending on which terminal you are at and what time of day you come in; you could be waiting in line for a while to get your taxi. Another problem is that you could get a taxi driver that may not know where your destination is or get a cab that has not been cleaned in a while. If you are arriving during heavier traffic periods; you will be sitting in the back watching the rate you are paying going higher and higher while the taxi does not move. Grabbing a cab is not the same as having a private car.
Renting a car seems like another easy choice. If you like having your own freedom to come and go as you please; this may be the option for you. At O'Hare to get your rental car requires you taking your luggage with you onto a bus that will take you to the rental car location. There you may have to wait in line to check in and then drag your bags to a cold or hot car out in a parking lot somewhere. Once your in the car, if you don't know where you are going you will want a GPS or map program on your phone or in the car. Once downtown; most hotels do not have parking lots so you will need to find a parking garage nearby or see if your hotel offers valet parking. Either way, you will incur additional expenses on top of the car rental fees.
Sedans and Limousines
This option can be the easiest and not the most expensive either. Once you arrive at O'Hare, most transportation companies can arrange for a greeter to meet you, help you with baggage, and make sure you get into your car quickly and safely. You will have a private vehicle awaiting you that will be heated or cooled depending on the season. The driver will know ahead of time where you are going and how to get there. Traffic delays are not an issue as you will have a flat rate for the transportation and most vehicles will have a great audio system for you to choose from. Once you are at your location; you will be dropped off right at the front door and the driver will help you with your bags.
